The South East Plan

The South East Plan

Introduction

The South East Plan covers the period 2006-2026. It sets out broad strategic policies at regional level for matters that apply across the whole region or major parts of the region, and need consideration on a scale wider than that of a single council. The regional assembly helps to ensure development in the South East region is sustainable and mitigates and adapts to the forecasted effects of climate change. The assembly also aims to improve South East England's economy and tourism as well as promote urban renaissance and encourage efficient use of natural resources.

The Secretary of State published Proposed Changes to the draft Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) on 17 July 2008. Consultation on the changes ended on 24 October 2008. The final plan was published in 2009.

The Implementation Plan for the South East specifically identifies a range of local infrastructure costs that will be required to support delivery of the RSS. This includes community space, libraries and archives, amongst a range of other social infrastructure requirements. The libraries and archives calculations are based on MLA South East’s assumptions on library provision.
