An empty interior design store in Blackburn town centre received a new lease of life when artists took over on Monday February 1st.
The former Waterloo Pavilion shop has been transformed into a drop-in style learning centre operated by artists and other groups who are running workshops and events for local people.
The six week Project Our Place scheme (POP) is part of the national living places initiative to promote the use of culture and sport in regenerating towns and cities and was set up by the Museums and Libraries Archive Council (MLA).
This project is to celebrate Blackburn and its people. At POP we will approach this through workshops and events for local people and their communities.
We are a ‘creative hub’ right here in the centre of Blackburn. We will create a warm welcome to anyone who wants to learn and have a go at something new. This could be painting, writing poetry, playing a musical instrument, dancing or drawing. Just a sample of our FREE workshops here at the POP hub.
Our place has studios where artists are available during public opening hours to chat about their work. You will be welcomed by local artists who aim to create a friendly, comfortable place for people to enjoy a variety of arts.
So, pop in – you’re guaranteed a warm welcome.
The POP Team
This project is run for the Arts Services and Town Centre Regeneration teams of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council by artists from Artichoke Studios.
It is funded by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, the Transformation Fund, and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
